Four Candles The first candle represents our grief. The pain of losing you is intense. It reminds us of the depth of our love for you. This second candle represents our courage. To confront our sorrow, To comfort each other, To change our lives. This third candle we light in your memory. For the times we laughed, The times we cried, The times we were angry with each other, The silly things you did, The caring and joy you gave us. This fourth candle we light for our love. We light this candle that your light will always shine. As we enter this holiday season and share this night of remembrance with our family and friends. We cherish the special place in our hearts that will always be reserved for you. We thank you for the gift your living brought to each of us. We love you. We remember you.

I thought he would live forever! Ninety-nine good years are close enough. How fortunate for him and for you that he was sound of mind and body to nearly the end. And that he was prepared for the end, with his family to accompany him. That is a real blessing. You are taking this great loss with equanimity - which is a testament to your own practice and clarity - but we hope you have the time and space to absorb his passing. We are thinking of you and look forward to welcoming you home. Much love, S&S

Thank you for letting us know about your dad. What a long life he lived. How fortunate that he could go peacefully and that he had such attentive care, not only from a caring physician, but from you and all of his family. That has to mean so much. We were sorry to hear of your father's passing. He lived a very long life and it sounds like he was fortunate to be well prepared for his final days. These are all great gifts. But, we know you must feel loss and sadness at his passing and some possible disbelief at realizing that you (we) are now the older generation. There is a lot of change that comes with the passing of our elders and it may take a while that to sink in. But we are all headed down that path. So take care of yourselves at this sensitive time. Fortunately you have the support and retreat of the Ashrams. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to support you and if any memorials are planned. Lot's of love, Ana & Amit

We are very sad to know that our dear uncle has left us physically. Please know for last few months you all were in my daily thoughts and prayers. From our childhoold, from Didu especially we have heard so many stories. I remember how excited we used get when our mother showed us those photographs came from America - Shona-mashi, uncle bill with David, Donny,Amita(with phulmama in one picture - looked exactly like your Pintudi - we used to compare and comment) and little bhai Purna - Doglaash! Then much later when we met Shona-mashi, she talked so much about her life and uncle. Finally, I met him in our California Ashrama - last time when Chhotomama-mami was visiting in 2010. I will always cherish these thoughts. My love goes to each one of you today and always. We all five are doing well. Love Bansaridi

Dear all, 99 years and 9+ months is ample time to experience life fully and savor the many changes 10 decades brings It is now appropriate to let you know that our Dad, Bill Rodman, is home from rehab, with a healed femur from the summertime fall. The cancer has advanced rapidly since our family gathering in july (dad ambulated with a walker and held court comfortably seated in the shade of the trees). He now has pleural effusion (fluid in the chest cavity) and other changes in status. please keep him, and most especially Paula, Alan, as well as Alan's children Michael and Mari, in mind as he prepares for his transition. Paula and Alan are losing both parents in rather close succession. Alan has been a constant companion and care giver for a while now, doing remarkable work and providing all that he can. He is actively supported by Michael and Mari. Alan has my utmost admiration. Paula will be here by the weekend, and I will see Dad and Alan likely tomorrow, Thursday. Dad was recently discharged to Hospice care after a brief hospital stint to relieve fluid retention. He is still able to communicate and aware of his environs, though the change in weakness, ambulation, and breathing, since Saturday is notable and compromised. His intake and nourishment is now minimal, and oral morphine was just initiated. This note is sent on the first anniversary of our eldest brother's, david's, unexpected death (congestive heart failure due to undiagnosed cancer). Sadly, Dad's wish to remember and celebrate David's life this November is postponed to other realms. The gerontology specialist and of course the Hospice team are committed to a pain-managed and dignified passage. But that pales in comparison to the more than 75 years... a lifetime for many....of Vedanta study and belief. it has prepared him well for this eventuality.

"Like a bird singing in the rain, let grateful memories survive in time of sorrow". W..o..w, we were just talking last night that how Mr. Rodman leads a very full life. It's amazing that until now Mr. Rodman attended every social events and was center of attraction, engaged in all the activities with lots of joy. And almost there to receive presidential letter for a century long life. He was such a lively person both physically and intellectually. Even more remarkable that 99.9% of his life very cheerful, engaging and without any pain till end. And so applaud able that he was well prepared to meet the supreme. Indeed we are privileged to know Mr. Rodman. All our sympathy and all our thoughts are with you and with the family.
