Obituary of Mark Leland Havlik
Mark Havlik, 57, passed away suddenly on March 29, 2019, following a brief illness. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Crippen Mortuary Chapel in La Crescenta.
Mark was born in California on February 17, 1962 and attended Monte Vista Elementary, Rosemont Junior High, and Crescenta Valley High (Class of 1980).
In high school, Mark was the heart of the Audio Visual club that ran and repaired the school's electrical equipment. This is not surprising since he was able to tear down and put together radios and TV's as early as 10 years of age. He was indeed a prodigy when it came to electrical and mechanical repairs. Most teachers at all of his schools benefited from Mark repairing their school and personal equipment.
After graduating high school, Mark worked at various businesses that repaired air conditioning, heaters, televisions, and autos. He also freelanced at repairs for most of his life. Anyone who knew Mark will tell you, he was very willing to help his friends and family fix anything that was broken, and he did it better than anyone else. He was extremely generous when it came to helping others. Always willing to fix broken down appliances, cars, computers, you name it.
Mark loved the city he grew up in. He loved its rich history and was an active participant in the Historical Society of Crescenta Valley. He loved collecting and sharing old photos of what the city looked like from much earlier years. He also loved older movies and TV shows, especially Emergency and The Jack Benny Show. He was also a huge fan of classic cars and classic restaurants, especially Bob's Big Boy. Though he was not very old, he was truly an old soul who appreciated the finer things from the “Good Ol' Days.”
Mark had a great sense of humor and was also very straight forward. He was not the type to follow a crowd; instead, he stayed true to his own personal code. If he said it, he meant it. He was never the type to back down from his own beliefs, which is pretty rare today. He has left his beloved Crescenta Valley way too soon and will truly be missed by all that were lucky enough to be his friend or family. He is preceded in death by both parents, Gladys and Anton. He is survived by his sister Holly Havlik. We ask that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in Mark’s honor to the Historical Society of the Crescenta Valley. Donations can be sent to CV Historical Society, 2717 Altura Ave., La Crescenta, CA 91214.
