Robert Edward Kelly
July 16, 1925 – June 5, 2012
Robert "Bob" Kelly, 86, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died peacefully at home in La Crescenta on June 5, 2012. Bob is survived by his wife, Joan, son, James, grandson, Jasper, sister-in-law, Catherine (Al) Magnanini, brother-in-law, George (Virginia) Brown, nieces, Kathryn (Gary) Hulzebos, Andrea Kelly and numerous other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in death by his parents, John and Sarah Kelly, brothers, John, Charles, James, Joseph and Paul, and sister, Sister Margaret.
Born on July 16, 1925, Bob attended St. Mel’s High School in Chicago. Joining his four brothers in the Army, Bob served in the Signal Corp in WWII. He received his BS Degree from the University of Illinois and his MS Degree from Northern Illinois University. After teaching for several years in the Midwest, he joined the Glendale Unified School District in 1957 as a teacher at Hoover High School. In 1961, he came to Rosemont Middle School as a Guidance Counselor and remained there until his retirement in 1993.
Bob served as President of the Parents’ Guild at Holy Redeemer School, was a lector at Holy Redeemer Church, and Cubmaster for Pack 117 at Holy Redeemer School. He also coached for the AYSO. In 1995, Bob was honored by the Dodgers as a "Hometown Hero" for his commitment to the youth of our community.
Bob loved traveling, reading, camping, fishing and golfing. His smile, his positive outlook and his sense of humor will be remembered by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
