Obituary of Charles Prescott

Please share a memory of Charles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Charles G Prescott passed away peacefully September 8, 2013 at the age of 99. He was born February 25, 1914 in Spokane, Washington to Frank and Nicoletta Prescott who preceded him in death. Charles moved with his family to the Crescenta Valley in the 1920’s. He graduated from Glendale High School and worked in the family construction business until called to serve his country in the Army just before Pearl Harbor. He proudly served in the Pacific Theater stationed in the Philippines and New Guinea in the Signal Corp. Upon returning to southern California he met and married Melvina on April 30, 1949 and enjoyed 34 years of marriage and then went on to have one daughter. With his brother John they began Prescott Bros. General Contractors building custom and spec houses throughout the Crescenta Valley. There are still many "Prescott Built" homes in the area. Charles was active throughout his retirement; an avid gardener, he took great pride in getting almost any plant to grow. He was always engineering, building and fixing things, rarely having a problem he couldn’t fix. In his later years he greatly enjoyed going to Sparr Heights senior center for lunch and meeting with his many friends there. He would sit outside extra early just to be sure not to miss his ride. He was an active member of American Legion Post 288 and The St Vincent DePaul Society. Charles leaves behind many friends and family who loved him and will miss him greatly. He had a great sense of humor, was always patient and even at 99, still had a sharp mind. He is survived by his daughter Karen Prescott, niece Toni Ann Prescott Hendrix, nephews Tom Prescott and Ross Caballero. Visitation will be held at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church September 14, 2013 at 10 a.m. with Funeral Mass to follow starting at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Charles’ name to the Wounded Warrior Project.
