Obituary of Phyllis Smith

Phyllis JoeAnn Smith, 89, of Santa Clarita, California, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2013. Born June 22, 1923 in Avoca, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late James E. Lewis and Susie A. Lewis, and wife of the late William L. Smith. She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca I. Mentor of Santa Clarita, California. "Mama lived and loved a full life, always putting others before herself. She was a fantastic mother." – Rebecca’’ Phyllis was "Rosie the riveter" during WWII building P52 Mustang’s at Lockheed in Burbank, California. She was a Navy wife for 20 years moving to such places as Alabama and Hawaii. She lived for 50 years in Burbank where she was a wonderful homemaker and great mother. Due to health issues, she spent the last 10 years living in Santa Clarita with her daughter’s family. Private memorial services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 10, 2013 at Grand View Cemetery in Glendale, California. A reception will be held at the Mentor residence in Santa Clarita directly following the service.
